It’s the summer of 1985. Micke is 10 years old and is sitting with his Commodore 64 having just loaded C64-GPT from cassette tape. AI is now the new hot thing. Now Micke can get tips on good music, movies and games, and even generate images. What a time!
I posted that on LinkedIn a couple of weeks ago and the nostalgia hit many people hard. For those my age this computer was one of the first you both encountered and actually owned.
So what is this? Well, it’s really just a nonsense project, but since I wanted to start learning a new programming language, I needed a product in the end. That makes it so much easier for me. But since so many have asked for the code, I made the project public now.
Code
You can find the code at github.com/mickekring/c64-chat And as usual — do what you want with it.
Try it yourself
If you want to see for yourself what happened in 1985 you can try C64 Chat at c64.labbytan.se for a limited time. Password: jobba75 Type LOAD CHAT and press enter, type the password and enter again. Then it’s just chatting about the 80s.
Nostalgia DeLux?
Then you can check out the video of my real C64 and how programs were loaded back in the day. A video that has over 380.000 views on Youtube, haha…
